Wando Reclaims State Championship in Girls Soccer

The Wando High School girls' soccer program is used to winning state titles; the Warriors had 10 of them coming into this past weekend's South Carolina High School League AAAAA finals showdown with J.L. Mann. However, Wando was looking for its first state crown since 2014, and first at the AAAAA level. Both stretches ended thanks to a 2-1 overtime victory over the Patriots in Irmo on May 14, 2021.

Kaleigh Bosak scored the eventual game-winning goal in the second overtime period (assist from Kylie Cino) and ended J.L. Mann's run as a three-time defending state champ. Gwen Keiser scored Wando's other goal in the second half, with the assist coming from her twin sister, Emma Keiser. The victory over J.L. Mann meant a lot for the Warriors since the Patriots beat them in the state finals in 2015, 2017, and 2019.

The Warriors, who finished the season with a 16-1 mark, now have 11 state championships in girls' soccer.

Head coach Shannon Champ now has seven state titles in her 16 seasons in charge of the Warriors' varsity program.
