COVID Contact Notification Information for Parents

Middle and High Notification Protocol for Classrooms

In addition to the regular practice of notifying parents of COVID-positive and close contacts daily, CCSD will implement the following protocol for middle and high school classroom notifications beginning February 8, 2021.

For students in grades 6-12, schools will notify parents/guardians by email if a positive COVID-19 case has been reported in one of their child’s classrooms. The notification will be done on the morning immediately following the identification of a COVID-positive case in a classroom. This will allow the process of notifying parents of students identified as close contacts to the positive individual to occur first in order to avoid confusion. The notification will be done by email only, so parents/guardians must provide their email address to the school in order to be included in the notification.

Unless you receive a separate personal communication from CCSD Nursing Services, your child has not been identified as either a positive or a close contact to a positive person and does not need to quarantine.

Please monitor your child for any symptoms that could be related to COVID-19, and do not send them to school if they are symptomatic or if they have been close contact with a COVID-positive person outside of school. The most common symptoms include new or worsening cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, and loss of taste and smell.

Please contact your child’s school if you have any questions. The S.C. DHEC Care Line is also available seven days a week to answer questions related to COVID-19 at 1-855-472-3432.
