Cario Artists Place in Scholastic
Congratulations to Peyton Moody and Evan Furtaw for placing in Scholastic's Southeast Regional Art & Writing Competition!
There are 3 types of awards for students in the regional placement, which are Gold Key, Silver Key, and Honorable Mention. Students competed with all 7-12th Graders who were 13-19 years old by the time of entry. Each year, there are over 100,000 entries. To say any student is selected is a remarkable feat! Please excuse the copied layout below: Per Scholastic, "Students’ entries are blindly adjudicated by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts.Jurors look for works that exemplify the Awards’ core values: originality, technical skill, and the emergence of personal voice or vision.
ORIGINALITY
Work that breaks from convention, blurs the boundaries between genres, and challenges notions of how a particular concept or emotion can be expressed.
TECHNICAL SKILL
Work that uses technique to advance an original perspective or a personal vision or voice, and shows skills being utilized to create something unique, powerful, and innovative.
EMERGENCE OF A PERSONAL VOICE OR VISION
Work with an authentic and unique point of view and style. --"*Peyton Moody won 2 Silver Keys: 1) Faces & Feathers (Graphite Drawing) 2) Cherry Blossom & Tradition (Linocut Print)
*Evan Furtaw won Honorable Mention: Curious Interceptions (Graphite Drawing)
Congrats again to them for their exceptional accomplishment and to our other students that entered their wonderful artworks and for representing Cario so well!
