Girl's Track Excels at State
Brett Jones, an eighth grader on St. John's High School's track and field team, won two individual state titles at the South Carolina High School A state meet on Saturday at Lower Richland High School.
Jones, who attends the Montessori Community School, captured the championship in the javelin with a throw of 126'2" (nearly 34 feet better than the runner-up in the event). That distance would have been good enough to win the AAAAA, AAA, and AA titles as well (and finish second in the AAAA meet). She also brought home the title in the discus with a toss of 103'3".
Our Girl's Track Team won the regional championship, took 2nd in lower state and 6th in state. Other highlights are as follows:
Johneia Odom (4X400 Relay) - MVP
Katie Pasibe (4x800 Relay, 100 Hurdles) - 3rd in Region for the 100 Hurdles-Coaches Award
Tylashia Alson (4x400 Relay) - Most Improved
Da’Nezia Sutton (4x400 Relay) - Most Improved
Kinleya Tolbert (Triple Jump) - 3rd in Region - Senior Award
Dylan Geddis (4x800 Relay) - Coaches Award
In addition, the following girls received these honors:
Makayla Nelson (Dicus) - 4th in State
Kamiree McKnight (Javelin) - 4th in Region, 5th in State
Kayla Carry (Javelin)- 3rd in the Region
