Time Bomb - Our entire school participated in reading the book Time Bomb by Joelle Charbonneau. Each student and faculty member received a book to read. We did some of the reading as a group and some on our own.
Joelle Charbonneau joined us for an author visit on January 29th and we learned about her writing process. Our students learned that anyone can become a writer.
On February 4th, all students on campus participated in a Break Out activity where they had to locate clues to help them retrieve a first aide kit from a locked box. Our students did a great job at uncovering the clues and "saving a friend in need of first aide."
After the Break Out activity, students and teachers went outside where they rotated in groups around the building and learned about the many facets of law enforcement and First Aide. Officer Deming helped us to get the Charleston County Police Department Bomb Squad, K-9 unit, Command Post, Water Search and Rescue, and the St. John's Fire Department to talk to our students in small groups. Charleston County EMS taught students some basic first aide using their "dummy" bodies and legs. Students learned how to Stop the Bleed and how to give chest compressions. Kona Ice joined us for some fun refreshments.
