Community Partners Help CCSD Families in Need
In October, representatives of The InterTech Group Foundation contacted guidance counselors from six Charleston County School district Title 1 schools that the company’s foundation has partnered with in past years.
The guidance counselors helped InterTech Group Foundation to identify 22 families that are in need of assistance during the holidays and to get a “wish list” from all 111 of the family members.
With funding from the foundation and those wish lists, everyone in the office adopted and shopped for a family.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, bags of gifts for each person were delivered to the individual schools along with a box of food, hygiene and cleaning products for each family. The products for the families are purchased from the Lowcountry Food Bank.
“Charity is contagious,” said InterTech spokesperson Myra Jones. “Someone from outside of our company found out about our efforts and with our help, for the last two years, has adopted an additional family from one of the schools. We made his delivery along with ours.”
Schools included:
North Charleston High School
Mary Ford Elementary
Jerry Zucker Middle School
North Charleston Elementary School
Pinehurst Elementary School
Stall High School
“Giving is an act of kindness not only during the holidays but every day,” said North Charleston elementary school Guidance Counselor Angela Dingle. “Families should be recognized through times of need no matter what the circumstances may be.”
