Mary Ford Early Learning & Family Center hosts community health and job fair

Mary Ford Wellness FairMary Ford Early Learning & Family Center hosted a community health and job fair on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. Families and community members were invited to explore employment opportunities and healthcare resources. 

Over 200 attendees engaged with 30 of the area’s top employers and left the event having filled out several on-the-spot job applications. Tri-county health providers were also on hand to provide health resources and screenings to families. 

Local employers seeking individuals with relevant work experience included SCWorks, Charleston County School District’s (CCSD) Expanded Learning Department (Kaleidoscope), Charleston County Public Library, Charleston Promise Neighborhood, T-Mobile, Fetter Health, Medical University of South Carolina, Roper Healthcare, First Students and many more. Additionally, North Charleston Mayor Reggie Burgess was on hand to greet guests and thank vendors for their support. 

In partnership with the Lowcountry Food Bank, a free farmer’s market with fresh produce and dairy was open to all attendees and the community. 

Mary Ford’s school nurse, Carrie Norwood, and the parent advocates, Iroasha Washington, Jatonya Frasier, Gloria Uwalor, and Gloria Dozier organized and led the event.

“The Health and Career Fair allowed Mary Ford to carry out the school's mission of creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging early learning environment that effectively supports the diverse needs of children and families,” said Principal Loretta Hart.
