CCSD teachers benefit from professional development sessions

February 14, 2020 was CCSD's annual District-Wide Professional Development Day. Teachers, Instructional Coaches, Teacher Assistants, and others came together from across the district at multiple schools in North Charleston and West Ashley for a day of professional learning. The innovative and differentiated professional development opportunities provided time for participants to grow in their knowledge, understanding, and skills that directly relate back to empowering students as learners in our classrooms.

Over 200 sessions were offered on a variety of topics, including learning about Cultural and Linguistic Diversity, the 2020 SC Social Studies Standards, Adaptive Digital Content, Restorative Practices, Open Court Phonics, Arts Integration, and sessions related to the upcoming K-5 and 6-8 Math Textbook Adoption.   Teachers were provided concrete strategies and tools and given opportunities for metacognition and reflection on their daily teaching activities. The commitment of teachers to engage as learners and contribute their own expertise led to the success of the day.

Teachers were also invited to offer feedback for planning of future professional learning via this survey: bit.ly/3141Vsv

Host schools were Charleston County School of the Arts, RB Stall High School, Matilda Dunston Elementary, Lambs Elementary, Northwoods Middle, Pinehurst Elementary, Ashley River Creative Arts and West Ashley High School. The food trucks at the PD locations today donated 10% of their profits to the CCSD Science Resource Center.
