- Ladson Elementary School
Information about School Closure Updated 5/21/2020
Important message from Principal Brown:
Good Evening Ladson Families. This is Principal Brown calling with your updates.
As we move into this week I want to take a moment to remind everyone that the last official day of instruction is May 22nd. After that teachers will be working on closing down their classrooms for the summer. We will also be focusing on collecting any work that still needs to be turned in as well as chromebooks and library books and we will be returning personal items to students. Each grade level will have a set day and time to come to the school to return things and collect personal items. Child Development through 4th grade will pick up their belongings through the car rider line between the hours of 2 and 4 according to the following schedule:
CD - June 2nd
Kg - June 3rd
1st - May 27th
2nd - May 26th
3rd - May 28th
4th - June 1st
Again, the hours for pick up are between 2:00 and 4:00 except for 5th grade.
5th grade will have a slightly different procedure. Because our 5th graders are leaving us and did not get the send-off they deserve, we want to do something special for them. 5th graders will come on June 4th between the hours of 3 and 6. During that time they will not only drop off their items and pick up their belongings but they will also be recognized and rewarded for their accomplishments as their teachers send them off to middle school. More details about this event will come later.
Over the course of the next week teachers will be working with students to complete any outstanding assignments and with parents to update your contact information. Over the summer we will need to reach out in order to prepare for our return in the fall so it is imperative that we have current contact information.
As we bring this school year to a close, I want to personally thank each and every one of you for all that you have done to support your child's learning during this unusual time. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it has been for you to manage your own lives while at the same time trying to ensure that your child does not fall behind academically but you did it. I am so very proud of each and every one of our parents, students, and teachers. These are tough times we are living in but when things got tough we pulled together as a community to make sure that everyone was taken care. That's what makes us Bulldog Strong.
Home Telecom will also be offering several internet programs to support remote workers and eLearning for students. That includes free Internet with WiFi for new households in their service area with K-12 or college students during the national emergency. You can visit HomeSC.com/Connect for more information and to sign-up.
AT&T is waiving their data overage fees to all their customers in an effort to ensure families stay connected during the outbreak.
Spectrum is offering a 60-day waiver fee so people can have WiFi for free. You can contact 1-844-488-8395. The service says they are experiencing an overwhelming amount of calls for their student remote learning offer. Call wait times were up to an hour on Wednesday afternoon.
Family Supports: Hotline and Google Site
A Family Support Line has been established to provide a resource for students or parents that need additional support during this extended schools closure. This hotline is not to replace school based interventions and supports, our main goal is to assist families in connecting to resources which could be school counselors, parent advocates, DMH services, social workers, etc.
CCSD employees from the Departments of Alternative Programs, Counseling Services, and Intervention & Psychological Services will answer calls Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm. The Family Support Hotline number is 843-937-7907.
