Fall 2023 Back to School Updates 8.17.23
Parents and students, please read the 2023-2024 JICHS Student Code of Conduct. This document is full of important information on policy and procedures. Also, please review the 2023-2024 JICHS Progressive Discipline Plan as there are major updates! We ask that you specifically review the consequences for Level 2 and 3 offenses.
At the June meeting, the JICHS Board of Directors voted on and approved an all day, school-wide cell-phone free policy using Yondr pouches, except during ILT time.
Each student will be issued a Yondr pouch and will power-off, store and lock electronic devices during all classes, class changes and anytime out of the classroom, except during ILT. Please review the JICHS Yondr Cell Phone Policy and student expectations.
Students will be given 2 JICHS permanent ID’s in Homeroom on the first day of school. One to wear around their neck and one to place in their Yondr cell phone pouch. These permanent ID’s must be used to scan into each class period for attendance purposes and will also be used to scan out of the class if a hall pass is needed. Our SchoolPass system will be live on August 23rd and staff will help share additional student expectations as they become available when the program goes live.
Chromebook Distribution will take place during the first 5 days of school in the library. Additional information is included in the 23-24 Chromebook Distribution Back to School Info. If your student is taking a Dual Enrollment course that starts Monday, Aug. 21, please use Ask A Librarian to obtain a device.
We will be operating on Bell Schedule #4 the first 3 days of school. All students MUST attend Homeroom for attendance and accountability purposes (even those with a Late In).
Check out the Parent PickUp/Drop Off traffic pattern to be prepared for the first day.
This year all students parking on campus will be assigned their own parking space. Each space in the student parking lot has been numbered. Your parking sticker will have a number and that is the spot you will park in. Please make sure you park in your assigned numbered spot. Students that still need a parking pass should complete the Student parking form under the transportation tab of JICHS homepage, as well as payment through Revtrak, before you will be issued a sticker.
Bus transportation information has been updated on the JICHS website. Please use the Bus Look Up Tool to review the latest pick up and drop off times for the James Island Bus Routes as well as the JICHS Magnet Bus Routes. All payments for Magnet Buses need to be made ASAP as seats are limited. If you have applied for a Magnet Bus seat, please pay the fees by August 22 at 3:30PM to secure your student’s seat. Failure to do so will result in losing your reserved seat.
The Senior Privilege of leaving school during lunch will begin on Monday, August 28, 2023. Parents will have three days to complete the required paperwork, which will be emailed the first day of school. Seniors may not leave until they pick up their colored senior ID or flex pass.
Remember, finalized student schedules will be viewable via the PowerSchool Portal beginning August 18th. Please note that schedules will not be finalized and should not be printed until this date.
There will be an Open House on Monday, August 21st at 5:30 p.m. for all students and their parents/guardians. This will be a great opportunity to explore our campus, meet your teachers, and learn about some of our practices, policies, and procedures.
If you have any questions, please contact the school at 843-762-2754. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you for the first day of school, August 23rd at 8:30am!
