JICHS Tradd Thomas Earns Eagle Scout Honor While Making JICHS Beautiful
JICHS Senior Tradd Thomas saw a need at JICHS. Since the school modified the lunch schedule and the entire student body ate lunch at the same time, the students needed somewhere to sit and eat their lunch and socialize with their peers. He decided to create benches for the mall area. The bench project was used to fulfill his Eagle Scout requirement 5, which states "While a Life Scout, plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community. (The project must benefit an organization other than Boy Scouting.)"
"The project consisted of me and groups of others, including those in my troop, painting (and pre-painting) and constructing six wooden benches for use inside the school campus. With the one-lunch program, it leaves little to no options when it comes to outdoor seating. The benches were painted in the school colors," said Thomas.
