Kayela ClarkCharleston County School District (CCSD) is delighted to announce and welcome Kayela Clark as principal at Lambs Elementary School. Clark has served as the assistant principal at E.B. Ellington Elementary School since 2021.

Clark first joined CCSD in 2007 as a teacher at W.B. Goodwin Elementary  School in North Charleston. After five years in the classroom, Clark transitioned to becoming the school’s master reading teacher, where she collaborated with school leaders to develop and implement intervention  plans for students and coached kindergarten and first-grade teachers.

Recognized for her skills as an educator and mentor, Clark was selected to  become one of the district’s personalized learning coaches in 2013. In this  role, Clark worked closely with school stakeholders to develop a school-wide vision, develop and implement a three-year strategic plan for personalized learning, establish feedback loops and coaching cycles for teachers and  administration, and design and deliver personalized professional  development. Her efforts ultimately helped Pepperhill Elementary School  become a nationally recognized model school for personalized learning during her three years in the role.

In 2016, Clark shifted her skill set to innovation and digital learning where she served as a districtwide coach focused on helping teachers attain their professional growth goals. Two years later, she furthered her positive impact  by transitioning to serve as a districtwide instructional coach. In this capacity, Clark focused on designing curricula to support teachers and student growth while utilizing classroom data to support instructional decision-making and  planning.

With a heart for children and a desire to serve again at the school level, Clark took the position of assistant principal at E.B. Ellington Elementary where she has served for the past three years.

“The Elementary Learning Community could not be more excited to welcome  Kayela Clark to our team of principals,” said Dr. Jennifer Swearingen, Associate  Superintendent of the Elementary Learning Community. “Mrs. Clark will provide incredible instructional leadership, a loving heart for all stakeholders, and unsurpassed professionalism to the Lambs Elementary School community. Our  team looks forward to collaborating with Mrs. Clark in service to students, families,  and the Lambs community.”

Clark received a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, Child Studies,  and Human and Organizational Development from Vanderbilt University. She also earned a Master of Education in Risk and Prevention from Harvard University and a  Master of Education in Educational Leadership from The Citadel. Clark has served as an adjunct professor at the College of Charleston since 2017 and as a CCSD  Assistant Principal Mentor since 2023. She has also served as a member of the  South Carolina Standards Review Team for math and English Language Arts.
