Mayor Summey and Superintendent Kennedy collaborate around common goals for students
Charleston County School District (CCSD) Superintendent Don Kennedy and North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey held a productive meeting on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, to discuss their shared goal of positive educational outcomes for all children, particularly those in North Charleston. They discussed the needs of North Charleston's schools and committed to enhancing the partnership between their organizations to ensure all students have the necessary resources and skills to achieve their dreams. They agreed that continued work towards equitable opportunities and facilities is the only path forward.
Following the meeting, Summey said “Cultivating a community that prioritizes quality education is paramount. Our shared goal is to ensure that every child in North Charleston has access to a high-quality education, regardless of where they grow up. Through continued collaboration and a commitment to equitable opportunities and resources, we can create a brighter future for all students.”
Kennedy agreed, saying that the “continued collaboration between the two entities will ensure that all students have the ability to make their dreams come true. I am grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Mayor Summey on how we best improve student outcomes and keep families focused on their children’s growth and achievement.”
