Charleston Marathon Awards Grants to Local Schools
The Charleston Marathon® hit the road Monday, November 16th, and Wednesday, November 18th to surprise four area school communities with checks in support of Arts programming at their schools. Just over $4,000 was awarded as a result of funds raised through the 2020 race, and an additional $3,900 was given out in January to individual teachers in smaller $100 grants for their classrooms. Further funding goes to support Engaging Creative Minds (ECM), a local educational nonprofit that promotes Arts Integration in area schools.
Applications were judged in a blind scoring process organized by ECM. This year’s grants were scored by an external team of judges, all of whom serve on ECM’s board of directors. Grants were rated on several factors, including the impact their proposed art project will have on future academic achievement and participation in the arts.
