In partnership with the Charleston RiverDogs, CCSD’s 2nd Grade classes will have the opportunity to participate in the annual Reading Around the Bases program.
Participating schools will have a school visit from a special guest reader accompanied by Charlie T. RiverDog. The top 25 Grand Slam readers at each school will be honored at the RiverDogs’ Education Day game on April 16, 2024. Also, the school whose 25 Grand Slam readers read the most minutes overall during the challenge will compete in a kickball game against the RiverDogs in May 2024.
Reading Around the Bases challenge will begin on January 16, 2024, and end on March 15, 2024. Students will log their reading in Beanstack where there will be a special Reading Around the Bases challenge and new badges. Each week a class MVP will be selected based on the minutes they read that week.
We ask that students read just 10 minutes a night at home. A reading log will be sent home to record which book they read and how long they read. Recording the minutes into Beanstack will take place at school.
Be sure to check out the Reading Around the Bases page located on the library page for more information and to see photos from the kickoff event!
