West Ashley Welcomes Head Women's Cross Country Coach Brittany Warner

Warner joins the Wildcats after coaching at Arizona College Prep

Charleston, SC – West Ashley High School has named Brittany Warner as its next head women’s cross country coach. Warner comes to West Ashley from Arizona College Prep (ACP) where she served as the head coach for women’s cross country and track and field.

“We are extremely excited to add another former Division 1 athlete to our cross country and track and field programs,” said West Ashley Athletic Director Jeff Fipps. “Coach Warner’s experiences as a lifelong runner will be a tremendous asset.”

Warner has served as a head coach, assistant coach, and athletic trainer at various institutions in Arizona and Utah before joining the Wildcats for the upcoming 2022 - 2023 school year.

“I am looking forward to coaching at West Ashley High School as a part of their athletic program,” said Warner. “I think Coach Dowdy has done a great job with the cross country program, and I hope to be able to build on that with him this year.”

Warner began her professional athletic career in August 2017 at American Leadership Academy in Spanish Fork, UT where she served as a certified athletic trainer. Her focus centered around treating injuries, providing rehabilitation for student-athletes, and being available for all athletic teams during practices and games.

The following year, she served as the head athletic trainer at Gilbert Classical Academy in Gilbert, AZ and as the assistant athletic trainer at Arizona College Prep (ACP) in Chandler, AZ at the same time. Warner worked to educate student-athletes about injuries and how to both prevent and treat them using taping, bracing, manual therapy, and modalities.

Warner became the assistant women’s cross country and assistant women’s track and field coach at Arizona College Prep in July 2020 before moving up to the head coach position in both sports for the 2021-2022 school year.

During her time at ACP, Warner helped coach the women’s cross country team to 8th and 7th place at the state meet in 2020 and 2021, respectively. She also helped the men’s and women’s 4 x 800 relay teams make it to state in 2021, breaking several school records along the way.

Warner will also serve as the Wildcats’ assistant distance track and field coach. She has big plans regarding what she aims to accomplish while at West Ashley.

“One thing I always say to my athletes is to ‘be where your feet are,’ meaning to be present in whatever you are doing,” said Warner. “I love that running gives the athletes (and myself) a chance to set aside the worries of school, work, etc. and just be fully present in the current moment, repetition, or race.”

Warner attended Bonneville High School in Idaho Falls, ID where she was a member of both the cross country and track & field teams. She continued to perfect her skills as a runner, eventually becoming 7th in the State in the 1,600-meter race during her senior year. During her time at Bonneville, Warner received a varsity letter and qualified for State all four years of high school in both sports.

Deciding to continue her athletic career at the post-secondary level, Warner attended Weber State University in Ogden, UT where she graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. While there, she began to hone her skills as an athletic trainer by working with student-athletes, coaches, and sports team at the institution.

Warner competed as part of the school’s cross country and track and field teams as a Division 1 athlete. She competed for two and a half years, focusing her attention on 3,000 meter and 5,000 meter events in track and field, while still running cross country. Warner received multiple academic All-American honors for her grades and sportsmanship.

“Some of my biggest goals for this season are to increase our numbers, work with our booster club to build camaraderie outside of practices (like team dinners or a fun end of season event), and qualify our athletes for state,” said Warner. “I’m really thankful for the opportunity I have to continue to grow as a coach and help the West Ashley cross country program develop and become even more successful.”

Warner has been married for six years to her husband, Brendon Warner. They have one three-year-old daughter (Scarlett) who is already a big fan of the sport as she often attends practices with her mom.
