Burke High's Trunk or Treat Event
Burke High’s Trunk or Treat Event
Burke High School opened its courtyard gates to the community this Wednesday for a Community Trunk or Treat Event. The event was well attended with approximately 400-500 community members enjoying the festivities! Burke hosted over 20 organizations, more than 10 community partners, and 3 food trucks during the event for local community members to enjoy. This was the first time since the pandemic where community members were able to be on campus and engage with each other in a non-academic forum. Student volunteers helped represent cars alongside their organization sponsors.
Senior Kalaya Nelson attended the event and shared, “Our Bulldog Pride was in full effect when we were able to see the band perform for the community. It was also great that we were able to support the kids.” Freshmen and football stand-out, Jalen Brown echoed Nelson expressing that his favorite part was “showing up for the kids and passing out candy. It was great to see them so excited.” Brown is coming off a great freshmen football season and Nelson is closing out her high school career as a flutist in our Burke Band. Teacher and parent, Ben Plants shared that his students “...had the best time at Burke that they’ve had in a while” and added that students shared they’re hoping to be a part of more events like this in the future.
The organizer of the event, Cameron Orr, shared “we are blown away by the community support and turnout for this event. It’s our goal to have more events like this in the future. We thank all of those who were involved in the planning process and those who donated for the event.”
We will recognize those people and organizations below.
