Check out this AWESOME PAID Summer internship opportunity for rising grades 9-12 interested in nutrition, urban farms and sustainable gardens:
The Green Heart Project, a farm-to-school non profit that builds gardens at local schools to facilitate outdoor education and learning, is excited to announce paid high school internships for summer 2020.
The Green Heart Project Youth Internship Program will employ high school students as Crew Members who work with a team of their peers to maintain a half acre urban farm in the center of downtown Charleston.
Crew Member farm duties will include: growing, harvesting, and processing fruit and vegetable crops. Additionally, a Crew Member will help run an onsite farm stand by pricing and selling the produce they have grown. These opportunities will allow Crew Members to serve the Charleston community by engaging with their neighbors through the growing and selling of fresh, healthy, and affordable food. Furthermore, Crew Members will engage in daily educational sessions, workshops and community site visits. Through this internship, Crew Members will develop career preparedness, healthy living, and citizenship skills.
This internship is more than a summer job. It’s an opportunity for students to get paid, have fun, make new friends, spend time outside, and help their community. By the end of the summer Crew Members will know how to cook a healthy meal from scratch, manage personal finances, and will gain experience running an urban farm and market stand.
