Academic Magnet earns top-10 national ranking by U.S. News and World Report
RELEASE DATE: September 8, 2023
Five CCSD schools ranked in the top-25 in South Carolina
Academic Magnet High School (AMHS) remains one of the top high schools in the country according to the newest U.S. News & World Report national rankings. The national publication named Academic Magnet the eighth-best high school in the United States; this is the fifth consecutive year the Raptors made the top-10 on this list (AMHS was number one in the country in 2019 and number two 2020 through 2022).
“This recognition is only achievable with sustained great effort from a lot of great people,” said AMHS Principal and alum Jacob Perlmutter. “I feel extremely fortunate to work with such gifted students and teachers every day at Academic Magnet High School.”
The U.S. News Best High Schools rankings include data on nearly 25,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Nearly 18,000 schools were ranked on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.
Academic Magnet is the fourth-best magnet high school in the nation as well.
“It feels extraordinary to have the hard work that my classmates and I put into school for the last three plus years recognized on a national level," said Senior Wilson Swenson.
Five schools from Charleston County School District (CCSD) are in the top-25 of the 2023 U.S. News and World Report rankings for South Carolina: Academic Magnet (1), Charleston County School of the Arts (2), Wando High School (4), James Island Charter High School (18), and Charleston Charter School for Math and Science (23).
