CCSD to Suspend Summer Athletic Activities
Charleston County School District (CCSD) will suspend summer athletic practices effective Thursday, July 2 due to the recent and continuing rise in COVID-19 cases in the Charleston area.

Valedictorian of Garrett’s final graduating class finishes strong
Gordon G. Garrett Academy of Technology’s valedictorian, Keyonne McKnight is headed to the University of South Carolina to study Biological Sciences and then to the University of Georgia to study veterinary medicine. She has plans to open a non-profit veterinary clinic.

Five urban schools awarded $100K Farm to School Grant
Charleston County School District (CCSD) has been awarded a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to offer Farm to School programs at five schools. It is the first Farm to School grant awarded to CCSD.

CCSD Board of Trustees unanimously passed the second reading of a balanced FY2021 Budget on Wednesday night, including $541,425,487 for the General Operating Fund (GOF) that does not require a tax millage increase.

CCSD student-athletes to return to campuses for workouts starting June 22
Charleston County School District (CCSD) will follow the South Carolina High School League’s three-phase approach to start summer conditioning for high school athletes. Phase 1 for CCSD, which includes the return of student-athletes to campuses, begins Monday, June 22, 2020.

Four years after implementing an energy conservation program with Cenergistic, a nationwide energy sustainability company, across its campuses, CCSD has cut energy use by 17 percent.

Charleston County School District (CCSD) was made aware of highly offensive and unacceptable remarks posted by an employee on a public news media website. The employee, who is a non-teaching school staff member, is no longer employed by CCSD, as of this morning (Monday, June 15).

Two CCSD schools introduce cycling into everyday curriculum
Deer Park Middle School and St. James-Santee Elementary-Middle School will integrate cycling into the physical education curriculum as a means to help students achieve academic, health, and social success.

CCSD’s Department of Nutrition Services to continue providing meals this summer
Department of Nutrition Services is pleased to announce meal service will continue through the summer for children 18 years and younger. Starting today, Monday, June 8, 2020, and lasting through Friday, August 7, 2020, delicious, student-favorite menu items will be served at no cost to students at locations throughout Charleston County. Nutrition Services staff members will provide the meals Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (as they did the final weeks of the school year). Each Monday and Wednesday, students will receive two lunches and two breakfasts. On Friday, students will receive a total of six meals with shelf-stable items.

NMSC honors 11 CCSD students with college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships
CCSD is proud to announce 11 graduating seniors are receiving college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) this year. They are part of the third group of winners in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. A total of 20 CCSD students have now received scholarships from NMSC in 2020.

West Ashley HS students recognized for accomplishments in Career and Technology Education
West Ashley High School is excited to announce two scholars earned awards for their work in Career and Technology Education (CTE). The South Carolina Department of Education’s Office of CTE named Dejah Parks as the Work-Based Learning Student (WBL) of the Year Award for the Trident region and Reggie Miller as the Technology Champion for the Trident Region.
