Women in Charge (WIC): Engineering Women's Lives (womenincharge101.org)
WIC is an organization started 21 years ago at Moultrie and now also has a chapter in the upstate. Engineering Women’s Lives enables early adolescent girls to see they have the power to engineer the life they dream by uncovering their future in science! Imagine studying pulley systems by challenging yourself to climb and repel from a 40-foot tower, learn how to suture a wound with female surgeons, watch eye reconstructive surgery as the surgeon explains the procedure, even work at Clemson’s own DNA Learning center! All of these activities describe Women In Charge: Engineering Women’s Lives! Women In Charge has increased participant interest in and knowledge of science and math careers by breaking down the processes needed to enter science and math careers, giving participants a structure to implement and carry out career plans. Simply put, WIC helps increase female student interest in and knowledge of STEM subject areas and careers by breaking down the processes needed to enter math and science careers so student participants can understand steps needed to prepare for and enter science and mathematics careers.
Grade Level: 7th Grade and 8th Grade (2-year program) – students are nominated by faculty and invited into this program.
