American College of Building Arts

Burke High School is proud to collaborate with the American College of the Building Arts (ACBA), the only institution of its kind in the country. Here, students will be challenged and inspired by Architectural Carpentry, Blacksmithing, Classical Architecture and Design, Architectural Stone Carving, Plaster, and Timber Framing. Developing these skills will prepare students for Charleston’s high-demand careers in preservation, construction, and design industries.

Linard McCloud Cultural Arts Collective at Burke High School

The Linard McCloud Cultural Arts Collective is an extension of Simmons-Pinckney and Burke, where students will master music, dance, and visual arts alongside professional artists and local practitioners. Named in honor of Mr. Linard H. McCloud, a distinguished Burke alumnus and music educator of nearly 50 years, these are more than classes, they’re a deep dive into the city’s rich arts and cultural heritage.

At Simmons-Pinckney, we celebrate each student’s unique brilliance by opening doors to discovery and empowering them to excel. As a proud cornerstone of the Peninsula Promise, we provide a rigorous foundation that ensures a seamless transition to Burke High School’s Liberal Arts, Fine Arts, Building Arts & Career and Technical Education Pathways. Students receive specialized preparation and priority access to high-demand programs, strengthening neighborhood continuity and fostering a strong sense of belonging, while paving a clear path from middle school to college and career success.

College of Charleston's Scholars Program at Burke

All students in the program will participate in:

All of the programs and offerings available at Burke
Students will take AP classes beginning in their freshman year
Beginning in the junior year, students can take dual credit classes at the College of Charleston campus
Students who attend the Scholars Academy @ Burke will have access to Fine Arts and CTE electives at Burke.
All students will be supported by AVID throughout their tenure in the program
