Safe Restart Headlines
CCSD's Board of Trustees approves the Safe Restart Plan
CCSD will offer two options:
a) The in-person school that will begin Sept. 8 with actual in-person instruction (subject to a sustained downward reduction in COVID-19 infection rates) or temporary stay-at-home remote instruction if parents prefer to start the school year in remote mode;
b) The K-12 Virtual Academy, which entails a 9-week commitment for K-8 students and a semester commitment for high school students.
Both temporary and virtual remote instruction will include intermittent in-person check-ins with students by teachers.
In-person student presence at school may occur for parents and teachers who are comfortable with this option, (not expected to exceed 20-25% of normal school capacity) as determined by each school's current medical metrics and logistical considerations.
Charleston County must see a downward trend in COVID-19 rates over a 14-day period before the Board will consider changing the operating mode. Data will be reviewed every two weeks by staff; monthly by Board.
Also, the Board would review the trend again on August 10.

*Note: The CCSD Parent Enrollment Option Form is intended for non-charter CCSD schools. CCSD charter schools will be performing their own outreach to families regarding safe restart. We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience our call out and email may have caused for our public charter school families. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we determine the best way to safely restart school for our students and staff.
Our desire is to restart school in August for all CCSD students with as much normalcy as is possible given the conditions at that time. We are tasked in the coming weeks with creating school settings that allow teachers and students to re-engage in quality learning while also taking appropriate measures to ensure their health and safety.
This safe restart in August will allow our students to return to their normal routines of learning and participation in school activities. We also understand that this safe restart will allow our parents to return to their normal lives knowing that their children are growing academically and being kept safe at school.
While we are not entirely sure today what our normal will look like when we restart, our staff, our parents, and our community deserve the assurance that we are diligently planning for a safe return to school for all students this August.
