The Coastal Community Foundation, steward of the Charleston County School District (CCSD) Scholarship Endowment, awarded $4,935 in scholarship funding to two CCSD graduates, helping ease the financial burden of higher education and expand opportunities for academic and professional success. Christina Richardson-Riddy and Olaysia Smith, both CCSD graduates, were awarded over $2,400 each.

Christina is the 2025-2026 valedictorian of St. John’s High School. She received a $2,460 endowment. Christina demonstrated an exceptional commitment to academic excellence throughout her high school career. She earned an associate's degree alongside her high school diploma, an achievement that reflects her dedication, perseverance, and strong work ethic.

She is attending Howard University, where she plans to major in Political Science as she prepares for a future in leadership and public service. Her academic accomplishments and determination have distinguished her among her peers and exemplify her passion for learning and personal growth.

“I am appreciative of the Coastal Community Foundation and the CCSD Scholarship Endowment for investing in students like me,” Christina said. “Receiving this scholarship will help ease the financial burden of college and allow me to focus on my education and future goals. This will have a lasting impact on my academic journey and future career.”

Olaysia, a graduate of R.B. Stall High School, earned an Associate of Arts degree through dual enrollment while completing her high school education. She was awarded a $2,475 endowment. Olaysia attends the University of South Carolina and is majoring in Public Health. Olaysia plans to pursue a career in radiation therapy.

Throughout high school, Olaysia demonstrated a strong commitment to academic achievement, leadership, entrepreneurship, and service. She was actively involved in the National Honor Society, Key Club, TRIO Upward Bound, and numerous community service initiatives.

In addition to her academic and extracurricular accomplishments, Olaysia successfully operated her own baking business, Purrrfest Pastries, showcasing both creativity and entrepreneurship.

“I appreciate this kind and generous investment,” said Olaysia. “Receiving this scholarship not only gives me financial support, but also allows me to pursue my career and life goals with less worry about college costs.”
