Charleston County School District (CCSD) Early Learning Department is taking early childhood education directly into neighborhoods with the launch of its new Head Start Recruitment Bus.  This mobile outreach initiative is designed to connect eligible families with Head Start and Early Head Start programs across Charleston County. 

The recruitment bus will travel throughout the county, visiting community centers, libraries, parks, faith-based organizations, neighborhood events, and other high-traffic locations to provide families with convenient access to enrollment information, eligibility screenings, and application assistance.

"Our goal is to remove barriers and meet families where they are," said Kimberly M. Foxworth, Executive Director, Early Childhood School Readiness Programs. "The Head Start Recruitment Bus allows us to bring valuable early childhood education resources directly into the communities we serve, making it easier for families to learn about our programs and begin the enrollment process."

CCSD's Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide comprehensive educational, health, nutrition, and family support services for eligible children from birth through 3 years old and expectant families. This federally funded program is designed to prepare children for success in school while supporting the overall well-being of the entire family. Head Start and Early Head Start are offered at multiple locations throughout the Charleston County School District.

Families visiting the Recruitment Bus can:

• Learn about Head Start and Early Head Start services.
• Determine program eligibility.
• Receive assistance completing enrollment applications.
• Learn about required enrollment documentation.
• Connect with Family Advocates and program staff.
• Receive information about additional community resources.
• Recruit families for employment opportunities within the program.

The Recruitment Bus will make scheduled appearances throughout the year at community events and neighborhood locations. Families are encouraged to stop by, ask questions, and discover how CCSD's early learning programs can support their child's educational journey.
