Walkout Day

Please see the following statement from Charleston County School District's Chief Strategy and Communications Officer, Erica Taylor:

Today's activities of remembrance were organized with school safety and security as the primary focus; and based on feedback from school leaders, the events were successful.

Each school that participated worked with student leadership to develop a plan for activities of remembrance based on the interest of their student body.

Some of the activities that occurred at our schools were peaceful gatherings outside, silent gatherings inside, students locking arms throughout hallways, assemblies promoting peace, and even students walking laps for each of the 17 lives lost at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL one month ago.

It is important to share that the team that developed the plans for today decided not to share the names of schools participating and to have closed campuses so that we could ensure that students could participate without concerns for safety.
