Dr. Deborah Davis-Cummings

Biography

I am proud to serve as the principal of Edith L. Frierson Elementary School. I affectionately call myself an Army Brat, however, I am a native of South Carolina, and mother to five fantastic daughters. My life mission has been to prepare our children to serve the world. My daughters are some of my best work. My eldest is a Human Resource staffer for Trenton Public Schools, and has her Masters, my second is an emergency room nurse, and working on her PH.D., my third is a financial analyst, and is working on her Masters, my fourth is a graduate of the College of Charleston and my fifth is a College Freshman. I hold Bachelor Degrees in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education and Psychology, a Master's Degree in Supervision and Administration, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Curriculum Instruction. This summer I completed 332 hours towards 350 hours of Montessori Administrator Certification.

This is my 37th year as an educator; 20 of those years have been spent as a School or District Level Administrator in our elementary and middle schools. I began my career teaching in the public schools of East Harlem, New York. I continued teaching in the inner city schools of Newark, New Jersey until my return home in 1998.

Coming back home to South Carolina has allowed me to share my strong love for my family and the South.

My life’s goal is to empower the children we serve so that they will not overpower us with apathy. Working together I know that we can ensure that "Failure is not an Option."
