Later, she moved back to South Carolina and began working in the science department at her alma mater, Lincoln High School. In 2017, she continued her teaching career at St. Stephen Middle School in Berkeley School District to be closer to home and her young son. After teaching 6th grade science for three years in Berkeley County, Witherspoon returned to the district and continued teaching middle level science.  She became an Assistant Principal at Morningside Middle School in 2023.

Witherspoon obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry in 2004 from Claflin University.
