  • JBE receives shade structure grant

    James B. Edwards Elementary School (JBE) has been awarded a Shade Structure Grant from the American Academy of Dermatology. The grant enabled a permanent shade structure to be built over Child Development and Kindergarten playground that will protect over 200 children each day from the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

  • CCSD able to provide additional meals at no cost to students through USDA

    Charleston County School District’s (CCSD) Nutrition Services Department is serving additional food and meals at no cost to students and their families through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Child and Adult Care Food Program. Forty-three schools are providing dinner meals to students and 11 schools are serving mid-morning snacks.

  • CCSD student discovers unsung heroes who changed the world

    Nicholas Turco, a Charleston County School of the Arts sixth grader, was named a $1,000 winner of the Lowell Milken Center (LMS) for Unsung Heroes’ annual Discovery Award competition – Outstanding Elementary School Award. Carolina Park Elementary School teacher Mary Huffman encouraged Turco to complete the project while he was in her fifth-grade class last year.
