Dear Warrior Families:
My name is Kim Wilson, and I have been given the opportunity to serve Wando High School as your Principal this year. I am extremely excited that I get to return home to Wando where I had the privilege of working for twenty-five years. I have many great memories of the students, community members, faculty, and staff I served during that time, and I look forward to reconnecting with former students who may now be serving in the role as a parent.
I am honored to lead a school with such deserving students, an extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive school community. For all students returning to Wando High School, welcome back! For those new to Wando High School, I welcome you into a close-knit and prideful family that will prepare you to be college or career ready. I look forward to connecting with you.
I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than forty-five years. Prior to becoming the principal at Wando High School, I worked with students from Kindergarten through Post-Secondary in a variety of roles. I have been a regular education Teacher, Coach, Director of Guidance, Associate Principal, Principal, Executive Director for Secondary Schools, and a Developmental Strategist for the Flippen Group. On a personal note, my wife and I have lived in the Mount Pleasant area for nearly 37 years. My wife worked as a teacher at Wando until her retirement. Our daughter and son are graduates of Wando High School and both attended college in the Charleston area.
In my role as a Developmental Strategist, I had the opportunity to work with educators and school districts across the United States in developing strong, safe, nurturing, and positive school cultures. At the heart of my work is building relational capacity with stakeholders so that all students can achieve at a high level.
Because relationships between families and the school are vital to the success of our students, I encourage you to become involved in every way possible. Our PTSO has many opportunities for parents to be involved in supporting our students, parents, faculty, and staff. Additionally, I encourage you to get involved with our School Improvement Council, Parent Groups, Fine Arts, Athletics, Career and Technology, and other school programs and organizations this year. Your involvement is vital to our success.
Students, with our staff, your hard work, along with informed parents and a community that is involved and values education, we will help to put you well on your way to a successful future.
Our journey begins August 17. “I've always loved the first day of school better than the last day of school. Firsts are best because they are beginnings” by Jenny Han.
Thank you for the opportunity to work with your child this year. We are better together.
Kim W. Wilson
