Alison Perez is delighted to be returning to Meeting Street Elementary @ Brentwood as a 2nd grade Teacher during the 2020-2021 school year. She is incredibly proud to be part of a learning community that is dedicated to providing quality educational opportunities for children in North Charleston. Alison grew up and attended public schools in Unionville, Pennsylvania. It was always Alison's dream to become a teacher. She received her bachelor's degree from West Chester University of Pennsylvania and is certified as an early childhood and elementary educator. After college, Alison spent 2 years in Rhode Island designing and implementing a tutoring and intervention program for at-risk students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Since moving to South Carolina in 2006, Alison has taught 1st and 2nd grade in Charleston County. She also provided support and mentorship for new teachers, and has designed and provided professional development in incorporating science into reading and writing instruction for early childhood educators. In her free time, Alison loves spending time outside, going to the beach, painting, reading, and playing with her dog and cats - Cassidy, Sugaree, and Scarlet.

Alma Jones is a fifth year kindergarten teacher at Meeting Street. During her first year at Meeting Street she began as a fellow and transitioned into a lead on the kindergarten team. Prior to joining the Meeting Street family, Alma worked at James Island Elementary for four years. While there, she worked as a teacher assistant in the computer lab, kindergarten class, and the pre-school intervention class (PIC). Alma earned my bachelor of science in elementary education from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Alma is a native of Edisto Island, South Carolina. She currently resides in Summerville, South Carolina with her fiancé Eddie, and three children, Aldariya, 17 and Trevion, 13, and Elijah 2 years old. When she is not teaching she enjoys spending time with her family. It has always been her dream to educate children, and she is passionate to live out her dream with the Meeting Street family. Alma looks forward to another exciting year at Meeting Street!

Amy Conroy is thrilled to be returning to Meeting Street Elementary @Brentwood for the 20-21 school year. Amy is in her seventh year as Assistant Principal at MSE @Brentwood and is a founding member of the school. This year, Amy will be in charge of school operations. Amy is committed to working with students, families, and staff to expand educational opportunities and student outcomes for all children. Amy joins us from Charleston County School District where she taught for six years at St. Andrew’s School of Math and Science. For the five years following her time in the classroom, Amy dedicated her efforts to working as a reading interventionist and instructional coach at Mitchell Elementary and with the Elementary Learning Community in CCSD. In her role, Amy mentored teachers, coordinated family workshops, and created professional development tailored to meet staff needs. She focused on working with families to provide support services, developing relationships with students, and working with teachers to help individualize instruction for every child. Amy received her B.S. in Elementary Education from the College of Charleston and a Masters in Elementary School Administration from The Citadel. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and playing with her dog, Maggie.

She was born in Louisiana and spent her formative years living in Germany. Anna Williams is our Pre-K- 1st grade Behavior Interventionist at Meeting Street Elementary @ Brentwood. Anna is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, where she served as a Therapeutic Group Leader at The Children’s Home of Cincinnati. While in this position, she provided intensive mental health treatment to children ages 3 to 8 in a classroom setting. Anna received her B.S. in Social Work from Miami University in Oxford, OH. Outside of work, Anna enjoys painting, long boarding, and going to the beach with her dog!

April Bright is returning for her third year as a Science teacher at Meeting Street Elementary at Brentwood. Hello, my name is Ben Leach. This year I will be the middle school science teacher and I will help with middle school operations. I have taught in a variety of schools, both public and private for six years, and have worked as a school administator for two years. Cara Murray is excited to return as 5th-7th grade School Counselor for MSE @Brentwood for the 2020-2021 school year! She loves to provide additional support for students and families that will help kids thrive in and out of the classroom. Cara holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Clemson University and a Master of Education in School Counseling from The Citadel Graduate College. Her experience for several years as a Program Director with WINGS for kids – a local nonprofit dedicated to helping kids build their social and emotional skills has helped shape her work as a counselor. Prior to working at MSEB, she was an OT for 4 years in SC public schools. Before focusing on pediatrics, Christine worked in adult rehabilitation for five years in North Charleston and Florence. She received her Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Sciences from the Medical University of South Carolina, and her undergraduate study was in Exercise Science at USC. Outside of school, Christine enjoys crafting, and spending time with her husband and 2 children camping, fishing, and supporting their school and sporting events.

She joined us from New York City, where she was an academic advisor, summer camp coordinator, and health educator for middle and high school students in the after-school setting. Prior to that, she was a health coordinator at a high school in Washington, DC. Clare received her BA in Psychology with minors in Education, Schooling, and Society from the University of Notre Dame and a MA and EdD in Health Education from Teachers College @ Columbia University. From Philly cheesesteaks to Georgia peaches, Dakota first started her teaching career in the Philadelphia area in the elementary setting prior to moving to Georgia to teach middle school. Dakota received her B.A. in Anthropology from Bloomsburg University, M.Ed. in Elementary and Special Education from Lincoln University and Specialist in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southwestern University. Daryl Joined us as a Behavioral Interventionist after spending years as a Behavioral Interventionist at a previous school in the Charleston County School District. Daryl was originally born in Liberia West Africa and moved to the United States at an early age. She joined MSEB after working as a Student Concern Specialist at Wando High School as well as a substitute teacher for CCSD. Domoniquie also has experience working with youth ages 5-18 in the foster care system as a Residential Counselor as well as a Case Manager. Domoniquie received her B.A. on Psychology and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work at the University of Central Florida. Kendra Yates is a member of the Operations Team at MSEB. She has been with MSEB for 2 years now. Before that, Kyle taught 6th grade at KIPP Nashville through Teach For America. For undergrad, Kyle attended Illinois State University and received a Bachelor's in Marketing and Psychology. After Teach For America, Kyle went on to receive her Masters degree in Social Work at New York University. She is a Licensed Master's Social Worker and continues training in that field as well as with teaching. Laura Gassaway is the music teacher at Meeting Street Elementary @Brentwood. This is her 5th year teaching at MSEB. One of her favorite aspects of her position is that she has the opportunity to teach her students year after year. She is from Nashville, Tennessee, where she developed her love for music. She grew up playing piano and began playing percussion in high school. She attended Middle Tennessee State University, where she participated in numerous music ensembles and earned her bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Music Education. She is currently completing her master’s degree in Instructional Design and Learning Technology through Anderson University. In her free time she enjoys seeing live music, running, gardening, and doing crafts.

Laura Hayden is starting her third year as a 5th grade Teacher at Meeting Street Elementary Brentwood, and could not be more excited to continue working with the MSEB students and community! She was born and raised in Maryland, in an area just north of Washington, DC. She attended the University of Dayton in Ohio for her undergraduate studies, where she graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. After receiving her degree, she knew in her heart she wanted to work with the future generation in a school, so she headed back home to Maryland for graduate school at Loyola University Maryland. Here she received her Master's in School Counseling in the spring of 2017. After graduation, Laura followed her older brother to the beautiful city of Charleston and discovered Meeting Street Schools. She knew right off the bat that she wanted to be a part of Meeting Street Schools, and more importantly to be a part of "being the change" in regards to students' educational experience in this area. During her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends and family, going to the beach, playing and cheering for all sports (Go Caps!), and trying all the different delicious restaurants Charleston has to offer!

Lindsay Morris is the Director of Student Pathways at Meeting Street Elementary @Brentwood. She joined the Brentwood team five years ago as a school counselor. Nicole Holmes is a fourth year First Grade Teacher at Meeting Street Elementary @Brentwood. She’s from right here in Charleston, South Carolina where she worked with the Charleston County School District for 12 years. During her time with CCSD she held several positions working as a kindergarten teacher's assistant, a behavior interventionist, and a reading interventionist. She feels that in each position she was given the opportunity to grow and prepare for the classroom experience. Nicole is also a product of CCSD, attending public elementary and middle schools within the district and graduating from North Charleston High School. She obtained her B.A. in Experimental Psychology with a minor in African American Studies from the University of South Carolina. Nicole is currently in pursuit of her M.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix. Sara is excited to move into the Teacher role at Meeting Street Elementary @ Brentwood this year after completing her first year as a Teacher Fellow. After working in adult career training in North Charleston as a teacher and administrator for 17 years, she felt a calling to work with school age children and create a positive culture in the classroom at an earlier age. She fell in love with the opportunity to make a difference and change outcomes for families for future generations. Prior to moving to South Carolina, Sara was a high school English teacher for 2 years in upstate New York, where she also served as yearbook advisor and indoor soccer coach for a local recreational league. Sara holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Secondary Education from Hartwick College and a Master’s of Science in Education from Capella University. Shawn Green is the Front Desk Receptionist @ MSEB. This is my 4th School term working her, but I started out as a Parent. I have a 9 year old daughter, who started her in PK4, and she is now going to the 4th grade. Outside of working and caring for my kids and Staff @MSEB.. Shelly Lee teaches sixth grade at Meeting Street Elementary @Brentwood. She joined us in 2017 as a member of our Leadership Team, and this year she is following her true passion and returning to the classroom. Shelly has worked in education for more than 20 years in a variety of roles including administration, teacher support, project management, and teaching. Shelly earned an M.A.T. and M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from The Citadel Graduate College and a B.S. from the College of Charleston. In her free time Shelly enjoys spending time with her friends and family.

Shina Brown teaches fifth grade at Meeting Street Elementary @Brentwood. This is her second year with MSEB. She has taught grades 3rd-5th throughout her teaching career. Shorey German Pre-K 3 teacher at Meeting Street Elementary @ Brentwood. This is will be my fifth year at Brentwood. I graduated from Coastal Carolina with a BA in History and a minor in Biology. I also graduated from University of Phoenix with a MA in Education specializing in Curriculum and Instruction. Stephanie Johnson is the Director of Special Education at Meeting Street Elementary @Brentwood. This is her 10th year working in Special Education and her 4th year working at Meeting Street Elementary @Brentwood. Stephanie graduated from the University of South Carolina and received her teaching licensure in Special Education through the Teach Charlotte Program. Outside of school, she enjoys oil painting and spending time with friends and family.

Stephanie Markle teaches seventh grade language arts at Meeting Street Elementary @Brentwood. She is joining the Meeting Street family from the Raleigh, N.C. area where she also taught seventh grade language arts and social studies. Stephanie graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville with a B.S. in Middle Childhood Education and concentrations in social studies and language arts. When she's not teaching, Stephanie enjoys spending time outside, reading, traveling, and cheering on Penn State football.

Sydney Jenkins teaches third grade at Meeting Street Elementary @Brentwood. This is Sydney's second year at Meeting Street, as she taught guided reading last year. Tanya Ascue, Science Teacher

Tanya Ascue joined Meeting Street in 2019, teaching Science education to elementary students. Her career began in the chemical industry, after receiving a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry with minors in Math and Environmental Science from SC State University. Tanya furthered her education at Clemson University in their masters program for Entomology. Afterwards, she completed manufacturing certifications from the University of Rolla in Missouri. On the weekends, Tanya engages in virtual activities and daily walks in the evening. Tanya is so excited to begin this year with her students.

Taylor Cardwell is an Early Childhood Instructional Coach for Meeting Street Elementary @ Brentwood. Previously, Taylor taught 1st grade for four years in Mississippi before moving to Charleston. At MSE@B, Taylor taught Kindergarten for two years before joining the Leadership Team. Taylor received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Elementary Education from The University of Mississippi. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, going on long walks with the dog, and running. Taylor, her husband Drew, Dexter the dog, and Beyonce the cat are looking forward to welcoming Baby Girl Cardwell in October!
