Good afternoon. This JICHS with an update on the school closure.

The staff has been working for a couple of weeks to prepare for a school closure. Today was a district-wide day to prepare for the distribution of educational materials. Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17, 2020, is a day for parents and students to pick-up any needed materials or resources from the school. The school will be open from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. After tomorrow, we are uncertain when we will have access to the school building. Please plan on coming tomorrow if you need something from the school.

JICHS will primarily be following an eLearning protocol that is individualized and delivered by each teacher. By now teachers should have communicated their eLearning protocol with the students.

    Chromebooks, Textbooks and Other Items

We are aware some students may not have access to a mobile device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) for distance learning. In this situation, the school is making Chromebooks available for checkout during this extended school closure. Most textbooks have already been issued or are available online. Textbooks are available for checkout in the Media Center if needed.  If your students left something at school they may get it tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17th between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM. Students or parents will be escorted where they need to go.

If a Chromebook is needed in order for a student to participate in emergency distance learning, the student and guardian must complete and sign the Mobile Device Responsible Use Agreement. This form may be picked up in the front atrium or found on our website for print. Once a form has been signed, they may pick up a device at the school on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM. All Chromebooks will be due when school resumes following the prolonged school closure. Families are responsible for damaged or lost devices.

    Hard Copy Packets

We understand that eLearning may not be an option for all of our students. In such instances where this is the case, students and families may stop by JICHS on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM to pick up hard copies of instructional resources and assignments.

The work that is planned and given for students to complete during a school building closure will be graded and is expected to be completed and turned in. Failure to complete assignments will negatively impact your academic progress and overall grades. Completed hard copy work must be ready to be turned in once we return to school; however, if the school closure is extended please listen for callouts and emails with specific information on how to turn in assignments and/or pick up additional assignments.

Also, attendance will be taken. Students with access to the internet must log in for each class, complete and submit the work as this will be evidence of attendance. Failure to log in and/or complete/ submit assignments (electronic or hard copy) will equate to an unexcused absence for that class period.

If needed, parents may pick their child’s medication in the clinic on Tuesday, March 17th.

During this extended school closure, our JICHS staff will be available to answer questions or give any assistance needed via email. Please understand that at this time we don’t have the answers to all of your questions, but we will do our best to answer you in a timely manner.
