Incoming Freshmen Summer Work
Dear Freshmen;
We are so glad you will be with us next year! To make it a little easier, we have created this space for MOST of the classes that incoming Freshmen take at AMHS, so that you don't have to go looking in each specific subject area. However, if you are taking an upper level class, you will have to go to the specific subject and see if there is any required summer work for that class. For science, there are only 2 courses that require summer work and they are not Freshman classes. There is also no summer work for Algebra I.
Enjoy your summer!

AP Research Summer Assignment
Dear Researcher,
● First and foremost, let me congratulate you on your interest in challenging yourself with the AP Capstone program. The skills that you have and will continue to acquire due to the Capstone program are paramount in your post-high school success. I am certain that in a few years you will look back on this course and realize that it was the most rewarding and practical course in your entire educational experience.
AP Research Course Description
“AP Research, the second course in the AP Capstone experience, allows students to deeply explore an academic topic, problem, issue, or idea of individual interest.
Students design, plan, and implement a yearlong investigation to address a research question. Through this inquiry, they further the skills they acquired in the AP Seminar course by learning research methodology, employing ethical research practices, and accessing, analyzing, and synthesizing information. Students reflect on their skill development, document their processes, and curate the artifacts of their scholarly work through a process and reflection portfolio. The course culminates in an academic paper of 4,000-5,000 words (accompanied by a performance, exhibit, or product where applicable) and a presentation with an oral defense.”(p. 8, AP Capstone Research Course and Exam Description, 2017)
To help you hit the ground running at the beginning of the year, the following Summer Work is required and is due the day of your return for the 2020/2021 school year.
We have kept the summer work to a minimum but there are a few concepts we would like you to have a better understanding of before the 1 st day of class.
Assignment: What is Research?
Read The Nature and Tools of Research pgs. 19-25 in the Practical Research Planning text and answer the questions in the google form and submit.
Throughout the summer, try to give some serious thought as to what your interests are and possible topics you would like to explore. Remember, try to choose something(s) you really have a passion for because you will be working with that topic for the entire school year. Try to generate some possible Research questions regarding your topic of interest that you might like to pursue.
Looking forward to seeing you in the Fall! -

Welcome to AP English Literature! Whether we begin the year working with you in-person or virtually, we are excited about our study of literature. We recognize that this year will present some challenges, but we are confident that we will be able to overcome them together. Your summer work will be due on September 8. Please be prepared to share and discuss your ideas on your first day of class. Expect information no later than September 4 about where and how to submit your work and about turnitin.com. Please fill out the attached form by August 31 to help us prepare for the first week of school. Completion of this form is important -- so it will be your first "quiz" grade of the year. Let's start off with a 100! :). Only your teachers will be able to view the data you share for class purposes; we will not be posting or sharing any answers.
Enjoy your last days of summer.Love, Mrs. Bortz & Mrs. LankfordLink to: AP English Lit Summer Update Form
