We have a 4th/5th GT that meets the second Wednesday after school monthly and we have a 3rd grade Green Team that meets the third Wednesday monthly. We work on a multitude of projects yearly and endeavor to expand and positively impact our community. This is what we accomplished in the last year:
- assembled a team to collect weekly recycling throughout the building
- hosted the Golden Recycling Bin competition monthly where one classroom is selected and rewarded for their recycling endeavors
- harvested, germinated, grew, and transplanted sporobolus (marsh) grass for the
From Seeds to Shoreline - S.C. Sea Grant Consortium
- started and maintained the JBE
B2 Breathe Better Program | SCDHEC
- planted trees on campus to improve air quality
- planted, cultivated, and harvested crops in our raised garden beds to supplement our Backpack Buddies Program with fresh produce
- maintained and cultivated a classroom tower garden
- toured and interviewed the director of the Charleston County Recycling Program to discover latest and best tips on recycling in our county
- in June 2019 became the first CCSD
Green Step Schools - Environmental Education Association of South Carolina
- through a DHEC Champions of the Environment grant, secured and installed a weather station such that fifth grade students will begin studying climate change and uploading local measures to NASA and NOAA databases through participation in the GLOBE program https://www.globe.gov/
