At Meeting Street Elementary @Burns, we optimize our instructional capacity through four elements: Time, Talent, Focus and Partnership. Together, these elements make us different by design.
At MSE @Burns, we believe that extended time at school makes a great difference in childhood education. Therefore, we provide an additional year of high quality education in Pre-K4, prior to kindergarten. A Pre-K3 program is also in the works.
These two years are vital in child development. Studies show that it is within these two years that the widest gap in reading and learning is formed. Our school day is extended, commencing at 7:45 am, with dismissal at 3:45 pm, offering more classroom time and structure to a student's day. In addition, we offer a free extended-day program from 3:45 pm - 5:45 pm.
Roughly 75% of our student body utilizes the after-school program, in which athletics, academics, and art programs are offered. Dinner is provided at extended-day, and the same expectations of excellence are expected from both students and teachers. Studies have proven that idle students fall behind their counterparts during the summer break, but just 10 extra days of school per year can help reverse this trend. Therefore, our academic year is expanded by 2.5 weeks to prevent summer "slippage."
