At Meeting Street Elementary @Burns, we optimize our instructional capacity through four elements: Time, Talent, Focus and Partnership. Together, these elements make us different by design.
At MS @Burns, we believe that extended time at school makes a great difference in childhood education. Therefore, we provide an additional year of high quality education in Pre-K 3, prior to kindergarten.
These two years are vital in child development. Studies show that it is within these two years that the widest gap in reading and learning is formed. Our elementary school day is extended, commencing at 7:30 am, with dismissal at 3:30 pm, offering more classroom time and structure to a student's day. Our middle school day is extended from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Studies have proven that idle students fall behind their counterparts during the summer break, but just 10 extra days of school per year can help reverse this trend. Therefore, our academic year is expanded by 2.5 weeks to prevent summer "slippage."
