Immunizations

The South Carolina Department of Public Health, SC DPH, requires specific vaccinations for students based on their age and grade. It is very important to check with your doctor and make an appointment for your child to receive any required vaccinations. Proof of immunizations must be provided to the school, and forgetting to schedule vaccinations may prevent your student from returning to school on time at the beginning of the year!

Tdap Requirements

Attention, parents!

SC Law requires all 7th through 12th-grade students to have a dose of Tdap vaccine. The Tdap vaccine protects students from tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (also known as whooping cough). This vaccine has been required for school attendance since 2013.

7th graders will not be able to receive a class schedule during registration without proof of  Tdap vaccination. Non-compliant students will not be able to begin 7th grade in August until proof of a Tdap vaccination is provided.  This is State Law!  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's school or school nurse or Nursing Services at 843-745-2184.

Where do I take my child to get shots required for school?

You can go to your personal medical provider or to one of the local Health Departments. Please note that SC DPH Immunization Clinics are by appointment only and book up quickly. Please schedule an appointment with your child's health care provider or call DHEC in advance for an appointment. To schedule an appointment at a DPH clinic, patients must call the DPH appointment line at: 1-855-472-3432. You may also speak to your school nurse to see if you are eligible for a school based vaccine program.
