New Hire Orientation FAQ

What is New Hire Orientation (NHO)?

NHO provides an opportunity to finalize administrative processing and learn more about the organization, its policies, and benefits for employees.

Do I have to attend?

Yes. All new employees must attend NHO.

Who schedules me for NHO?

Charleston County School District’s Office of Human Resources utilizes Calendy to schedule NHO. The Calendly scheduling platform allows new hires to select their orientation date. The link to select your date is sent out with your new hire packet of forms to complete.

How will I know if I’m scheduled for NHO?

You will receive email confirmation from Calendy once you have signed up. This will also allow you to reschedule should the need arise.

Where is NHO held?

Orientation is held virtually via Zoom. You will receive a Zoom invite prior to the scheduled meeting. This invite will be sent to your personal email address that was used to select your NHO session in Calendly.

How long is the session?

NHO starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. and wraps up at about 10:30 a.m..

What is the acceptable length of time for documentation of negative TB results?

The TB test (skin, chest x-ray, or QuantiFeron-TB Gold) must be completed/read within 12 months before your orientation date. Please upload the TB results to the TB form. Please keep in mind, that this testing is a 48-72 hour process, and you must present the negative results to attend orientation. Please note: CCSD does not pay for or reimburse the cost of the TB test.

Who should I contact if I don’t have a Letter of Employment or Letter of Agreement?

Employment Letters are generally issued to new employees via your private e-mail. This would be the e-mail address provided by you on your Frontline application. If you have not received a letter, via e-mail, contact your hiring manager first, then contact the Human Resources Support Center (M-F, 8-5) by phone at 843-937-6380 or e-mail at hrinfo@charleston.k12.sc.us.

What documents will I need for the I-9 Document review?

Each new employee must attend a document review session. This is a requirement of the Department of Homeland Security. HR must view the original hiring documents that were uploaded to complete the Federal I-9 form. Original copies of your citizenship documentation. A complete list of acceptable documents can be found here. Employees will need to present one selection from a List A item (passport) or a combination of one selection from a List B item (driver’s license or military ID) and one selection from a List C item (social security card or birth certificate)
