Library Materials Selection Guidelines and FAQs about Reconsideration

Collection development, the process of assessing student and staff academic and recreational reading needs and then prioritizing what is purchased with limited funds, is a crucial part of school librarians’ jobs. All our fully certified school librarians have a Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree that involved specific coursework about materials selection and they also receive ongoing training.  Our librarians use their professional training and the CCSD Library Materials Selection Guidelines to ensure that there is something for everyone in our libraries.

CCSD respects families' choices about their own students' library materials. Our librarians are committed to working with you and your children to find books that they can enjoy and that fit with what is important to your family. If you ever have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to your school’s librarian to start a conversation.
