Charleston County School District’s (CCSD) Division of Strategy and Communications, along with five schools, combined to receive a state-best 21 awards in the 2022 Rewards for Excellence program, sponsored by the South Carolina Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (SC/NSPRA). The honors include three “Best in Show” honors in the District Excellence in Writing category, School Social Media (Cooper River Center for Advanced Studies, and School Website (R.B. Stall High School).

SC/NSPRA recognized 119 programs and projects from across the state during a ceremony on Friday, May 13, 2022, in Columbia.

Rewards for Excellence recognizes outstanding communications and public relations efforts by South Carolina schools, school districts, and education agencies and associations. Public relations veterans with extensive experience in educational and business communications evaluated a total of 217 entries from the school and district levels.

The program features the following three main awards categories:  

  • Medallion (for comprehensive public relations programs)
  • Golden Achievement (for a single project or an aspect of a comprehensive program)
  • Publications and Electronic Media (for individual products designed to improve communication)

This is the second year in a row CCSD set its own record in the SC/NSPRA Reward for Excellence program; the district earned 17 honors in 2021.

SC/NSPRA is an affiliate of the National School Public Relations Association. The state chapter is composed of more than 140 school public relations practitioners, superintendents, and other educational professionals from across the state. The organization strives to foster development in the field of school public relations and to encourage meaningful community involvement in and understanding of the public school system.

2020-2021

Charleston County School District’s (CCSD) Division of Strategy and Communications, along with four schools, combined to receive 17 awards in this year’s Rewards for Excellence program, sponsored by the South Carolina Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (SC/NSPRA). This includes a prestigious Medallion honor for the district’s Safe Restart and a “Best in Show” honor in the In-House School Video category for Cooper River Center for Advanced Studies’ promotional video.

SC/NSPRA celebrated 108 programs and projects from across the state during a virtual ceremony on Thursday, July 15, 2021, on YouTube. The event was co-hosted by CCSD’s Director of Communication, Andy Pruitt, and included a Medallion Award presentation from CCSD’s Director of Strategic Engagement, Maggie Dangerfield.

This program recognizes outstanding communications and public relations efforts by South Carolina schools, school districts, and education agencies and associations. Public relations veterans with extensive experience in educational and business communications evaluated a combined 184 entries from the school and district levels.

The Rewards for Excellence Program features the following three awards programs:

  • Golden Achievement (for a single project or an aspect of a comprehensive program)
  • Publications and Electronic Media (for individual products designed to improve communication)

“Our communication strategies at the school and district level during the pandemic were thorough,” said CCSD’s Chief of Staff, Erica Taylor. “The Division of Strategy and Communications is driven by energy and passion. Our team works tirelessly to serve the community and produces quality work day in, day out. I appreciate the judges recognizing the excellence and diversity of our efforts.”

Seventeen SC/NSPRA Reward for Excellence awards is the most CCSD has received in one year.

2019-2020

Charleston County School District’s (CCSD) Office of Strategy and Communications, along with CCSD four schools, combined to receive 13 awards in this year’s Rewards for Excellence program, sponsored by the South Carolina Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (SC/NSPRA). This includes a prestigious Golden Achievement honor the district’s Teacher of the Year Celebration Program and a “Best in Show” honor in the School Video category for Wando High School’s student news show, Tribe Talk.

SC/NSPRA celebrated 138 programs and projects from across the state during the annual awards ceremony on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, via a virtual ceremony on YouTube co-hosted by CCSD’s Director of Communications and Technology, Andy Pruitt. 

This program recognizes outstanding communications and public relations efforts by South Carolina schools, school districts, and education agencies and associations. Public relations veterans with extensive experience in educational and business communications evaluated a combined 212 entries from the school and district levels.

The Rewards for Excellence Program features three awards programs:  Medallion (for comprehensive public relations programs), Golden Achievement (for a single project or an aspect of a comprehensive program), and Publications and Electronic Media (for individual products designed to improve communication).

“To have this many honors in one year speaks to the quality of work our office and schools are producing on a regular basis,” said CCSD’s Chief of Staff, Erica Taylor. “We are thankful the national and state judges in the program see what our communities see every day, high-quality storytelling and promotion through multiple forms of digital communication.”

 

2018-2019 Year

Charleston County School District’s (CCSD) Office and Strategy and Communications, along with two schools from CCSD, were honored at the South Carolina Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association’s (SC/NSPRA) annual Rewards for Excellence awards ceremony in West Columbia earlier this month. The event celebrated 92 programs and projects from across the state for outstanding communications and public relations efforts by South Carolina schools, school districts, and education agencies and associations.

The program features three award categories:

Medallion for comprehensive, well-planned public relations programs;

Golden Achievement for a single project or projects that represent an aspect of a comprehensive program; and

Publications and Electronic Media for individual publications or electronic media products such as presentations, photography, marketing, handbooks, magazines, calendars, and other special purpose publications designed to improve communication.

Almost 200 entries were judged by public relations veterans with extensive experience in educational and business communications. CCSD earned five Rewards for Excellence for Publications and Electronic Media and was one of only two districts to receive the prestigious Medallion honor:

"Our office is not only committed to celebrating and informing our community about the accomplishments of our students and staff, but telling the stories behind those accomplishments as well," said Erica Taylor, CCSD’s Chief of Staff. "We are grateful for this recognition, and the recognition our schools received from SC/NPSRA. Personally, I am extremely proud to work alongside such dedicated and talented communications professionals."
