Keeping Our Students Safe
The Charleston County School District has emergency and safety plans in place because we believe every student deserves a learning environment that is safe, challenging, and exciting.
Our Mission
The mission of the Security and Emergency Management team is to promote and support an environment that fosters life safety and the continuation of the learning process within the Charleston County School District. This is accomplished through comprehensive emergency planning, the delivery of effective training, developing community partnerships, employing effective security measures, and providing situational guidance to school staff and administrators during critical incidents.

The People Keeping Our Students Safe
Security Emergency Team
The S&EM team works every day to help create a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors on CCSD property. The S&EM team is made up of dedicated professionals from backgrounds such as law enforcement, emergency management, corrections, military, and school support.

School Resource Officers
SROs are full-time sworn law enforcement officers who are employed by the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, Charleston Police Department, North Charleston Police Department, Mount Pleasant Police Department, and the Sullivan's Island Police Department.

School Security Officers
SSOs are armed security officers assigned to a CCSD school to help ensure the campus remains safe for its students, staff, and visitors. SSOs are primarily used at schools without a full-time School Resource Officer (SRO).
