One Cent Sales Tax
Funding Mechanism: The One-Cent Sales Tax
The entire capital program is funded by a voter-approved one-cent sales tax — formally known as the Education Capital Improvement Sales and Use Tax. Each cycle runs for seven years. The tax funds new school construction, replacement of existing schools, capital maintenance, and technology. Importantly, a significant portion of revenue comes from tourism, which helps reduce the property tax and debt burden on county residents.
