It is important to introduce world languages to our students at an early age. Currently, we have Elementary Spanish or Elementary French at several schools across the district.  This course is an exploratory course that students attend during Related Arts.  It is designed to introduce students to the basics of the language and culture in the spanish-speaking or francophone countries, and to help students gain a global perspective. World language instruction is performance-based and proficiency-driven.  It focuses on practical communication skills and what students can understand and produce with the language.  Middle school language offerings vary by school, and may include French and/or Spanish.

Assessments in the middle school world language classes reflect and mirror performance-based instruction. Learners must demonstrate what they know and can do in the language, showing their progress toward increased language proficiency using real-world tasks. 

To meet learners where they are CCSD provides the opportunity for 8th graders to take Level 1  high school credit, as well as provide placement tests for Heritage speakers to take to place into advanced courses designed for students with an Intermediate Low proficiency level or higher.
