Mrs. Setser’s second graders at Laurel Hill Primary were trying to think of ways to make their school and community a better place. They started watching pep talks by Kid President, Robby Novak, who is known for his famous You Tube pep talks to kids and adults. Mrs. Setser’s class decided to jump in feet first and launch a Super Socktober campaign at Laurel Hill Primary once they learned that the least donated item to shelters is socks. The kids said they wanted to be heroes & donate socks! Second grader Natalie Nalbantian said, “We just felt badly that some kids didn’t have any socks, and we wanted to help them!”

Kid President creator Brad Montague launched Socktober five years ago. It’s a movement to get kids and grown-ups to help the homeless in an easy, fun way. This year’s Super Socktober drive at Laurel Hill will benefit the Windwood Farm Home in Awendaw, SC. The school wide goal is to collect 600 pairs of new socks in all colors, types, and sizes. Windwood Farm Director, Deborah McKelvey, says they serve several children at their facility as well as many families in the community so all sizes of new socks are appreciated.

Socks will be collected October 1-31 at Laurel Hill Primary, 3100 Thomas Cario Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466. For more information, please contact Alethea “E.C.” Setser at 843-345-1374 or or to learn more about Windwood Farm visit their website:
