  • JBE librarian receives 2021 Intellectual Freedom Award

    Heidi Benton, James B. Edwards Elementary School teacher-librarian, has received the 2021 Intellectual Freedom Award from the South Carolina Association of School Librarians. She was nominated by Christy James, District Library and Media Services Coordinator for Charleston County School District. This award recognizes those who advocate for the First Amendment rights of students, teachers, and citizens of South Carolina.

  • NCES second graders take state championship in READBowl ‘21

    Jessica Kirkpatrick’s second graders at North Charleston Elementary School (NCES) learned that they had read their way to becoming the South Carolina State Champions in the K-2 Primary Conference for READBowl ’21.

  • C.E. Williams’ Keerthana Samuel defends CCSD Spelling Bee crown with virtual victory

    C.E. Williams Middle School’s Keerthana Samuel wasn’t able to go to Washington, D.C. to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, the 2020 Charleston County School District (CCSD) Spelling Bee and Post and Courier Spellbound! champion has another shot to compete at the national level this year. The seventh-grader captured her second straight district title by winning the virtual event last week.

  • CCSD taking site applications for 2021 Free Summer Meals Program

    CCSD’s Nutrition Services Department will provide free breakfast and lunch meals to approved sites in lower-income areas of Charleston County through its Seamless Summer Feeding Program (SSFP). The program will operate Monday through Friday from Monday, June 21, 2021, through Friday, August 6, 2021.

    The "Unsung Educator of the Week" is a weekly honor given to a CCSD educator. The winner is nominated by a peer because of their determination to go above and beyond for our students. The winner for the week is published each Friday in the CCSD All Staff newsletter.

  • Trooper Bob

    This marks the second school year in which CCSD has partnered with ABC News 4 and Trooper Bob for the Trooper Bob safety Squad safety campaign. Promos and infomercials began airing September 8 and among those (and new this year) are safety messages about COVID-19 protocols on the bus, in school building/campus, and proper handwashing and mask-wearing tips.
