Peninsula Project
Serving Peninsula Students Well
A diverse team of educators, alumni, parents, partners, and community leaders is studying the peninsula’s long-term needs. Their charge is to:
- Provide every Peninsula student the tools and opportunities to succeed at the highest levels.
- Ensure any redesign strengthens community identity
- Explore how future population shifts could reshape school enrollment
- Consider innovative program offerings, new school configurations, and stronger partnerships
- Gather input from families, alumni, and the broader community
Areas of Exploration
- Strengthening early learning so children enter kindergarten prepared, and families have strong support from birth through age five
- Expanding middle school experiences so students can access rich arts, STEM, and career exploration opportunities
- Supporting high-performing academic pathways on the peninsula to include programs that attract and retain students by offering rigorous coursework and competitive admissions
- Expanding arts education and celebrating the peninsula’s cultural heritage, creating spaces that nurture young artists and bring professional artists into schools
- Rebuilding career and technical education, including high-wage, high-demand trades and apprenticeships that connect students directly to Charleston’s workforce
- Partnering with local institutions, including higher education, cultural organizations, and workforce entities, to create more real-world learning, dual enrollment opportunities, and internships
