What is LOCAL?

The LOCAL, or Linking Opportunities to Classrooms and Learners, is a new "Adopt-A-School/Classroom" style program designed to strengthen partnerships between Charleston County School District and local businesses and community organizations.

By becoming a LOCAL, organizations can adopt a school or classroom to provide valuable resources, experiences, and support that help ensure students and teachers thrive.

Why Your Support Makes a Difference

Businesses or organizations that support or adopt a classroom or school make a lasting impact on their communities by investing in education and the future workforce. Here’s why you should get involved:

  1. Strengthening the Workforce Pipeline – Supporting education helps develop skilled, well-prepared future employees with critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership abilities.
  2. Enhancing Employee Engagement – Employees benefit from meaningful volunteer opportunities, boosting morale, teamwork, and a sense of purpose.
  3. Addressing Educational Needs – Many schools, particularly in underserved areas, lack meaningful support. Your business or organization can help bridge gaps through your support of students, teachers, and families.
  4. Improving Student Outcomes – Contributions such as mentorship, career exploration programs, and one-on-one relationship building can lead to higher student engagement, improved academic performance, and greater career readiness.
  5. Encouraging Innovation and Creativity – Businesses bring real-world expertise, offering students hands-on learning experiences in STEM, finance, arts, and other fields.

By adopting a classroom or school, businesses play a vital role in shaping a brighter future for students while strengthening their own community impact.
