    What is kidCredit?

    It is a safe and easy way to provide secure funds for a child to purchase books and related products at Bedford Falls Book Fairs. It is similar to a gift certificate, however, unlike gift certificates issued by other vendors, kidCredit expires at the end of the book fair, and

    any unused kidCredit will be refunded to the purchaser.

     

    Is kidCredit safe?

    When purchasing kidCredit, you will be prompted to enter a “code word”. We recommend this be easy for the child to remember,such as their favorite hero or dinosaur. The code word will not appear on the kidCredit certificate you receive but will be provided to the Book Fair chairperson. kidCredit eliminates the need for the child to carry cash, credit/debit cards or gift certificates.

     

    What happens if my child loses (or forgets to bring) their kidCredit certificate to the fair?

    Each night, the Book Fair chairperson will receive an updated kidCredit listing for their Book Fair. This list will include the teacher and grade, the child’s first name and first letter of their last name, the code word, and their certificate number. At the book fair, your child can request their kidCredit from the list, and using the code word ensures that the correct certificate number is used. Because these lists are generated at night, your child may not be on the list until 12 hours after the time of purchase. If you purchased the certificate in the morning, please PRINT IT AND SEND IT TO SCHOOL WITH YOUR CHILD.

     

    What information do you collect about my child?

    In compliance with COPPA, we collect the minimum amount of information necessary to identify your child. We collect their first name, and the first letter of their last name. Optionally, we collect their email address if you wish to provide it.

     

    What is COPPA?

    The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule (https://www.ftc.gov/legal-library/browse/rules/childrens-online-privacy-protection-rule-coppa) imposes certain restrictions on operators of websites or online services directed to children under 13 years of age, and on operators of other websites or online services that have actual knowledge that they are collecting personal information online from a child under 13 years of age.

     

    How does Bedford Falls Book Fairs use the information you collect about my child?

    In compliance with COPPA, we only use your child’s information for the purpose of generating kidCredit certificates. The kidCredit certificate will include your child’s first name and the first letter of their last name. If you provide your child’s email address, we will email a copy of their kidCredit certificate at the time of purchase. Only one (1) email will be sent to your child’s email account, if you choose to provide it. Providing your child’s email address is optional. Your child’s first name, first letter of their last name, and the code word you provide will also be provided to the Book Fair chairperson daily. Additionally, the available balance and kidCredit certificate number are provided. If your child loses their kidCredit certificate, it can be found on this list. Asking the child for the code word ensures that the proper kidCredit certificate is used.

     

    What happens if my child doesn’t use all their kidCredit?

    At the end of the book fair, any unused kidCredit will be refunded to the purchaser. For example, if you purchase $25.00 in kidCredit, and your child spends $15.00 on products at the book fair, you will receive a refund of $10.00. Please note that refunds may take one to two cycles before they appear on your statement. Bedford Falls may opt to issue you a check in lieu of an electronic refund. If this is necessary, we will contact you via email for additional information.

     

    Is sales tax charged on kidCredit certificates?

    No. Like other gift certificates, sales tax is not charged on kidCredit certificates. However, sales tax may be charged on the books and other products available at the book fair. Contact the book fair chairperson to determine if sales tax is applicable at your book fair. Is sales tax charged at the Book Fair? Possibly. Each fair is different, and some fairs charge tax and others do not. Contact your Book Fair Chairperson for details.

     

    Can I purchase kidCredit using my mobile device?

    Yes! The kidCredit site is available on your laptop and desktop computer, as well as mobile browsers on smartphones and tablets.\

     

    Do I need to install an “app” on my device to purchase kidCredit?

    No. kidCredit is purchased through a secure, mobile friendly website, and no “app” is required.
