  • June 21, 2023 - CCSD Trustees approve contract with Dr. Eric Gallien to serve as Superintendent

    The Charleston County School District (CCSD) Board of Trustees announced today that Dr. Eric N. Gallien has been named the district’s next Superintendent of Schools. The Board approved Dr. Gallien’s contract with a 6 to 3 vote. He will assume the duties of Superintendent on July 1, 2023.

  • June 8, 2023 - CCSD TRUSTEE NEWS RELEASE

     In recent days, many Charleston County citizens have asked additional questions around the superintendent search process. To address those questions, we will continue to be transparent in response to the public.  

    The CCSD Board of Trustees, in partnership with BWP search firm, conducted a  thorough national search to find a highly qualified superintendent. 

    In total, there were 44 completed applications for the position. BWP reviewed all  44 applications and ultimately delivered seven applications to the Board that fulfilled the CCSD Leadership Profile. The CCSD Leadership Profile was designed following community input and was based on what Charleston  County citizens said they wanted in the next superintendent.

  • May 30, 2023 - Charleston County School District Board of Trustees Selects New Superintendent to Lead District Forward

    Today, the Charleston County School District (CCSD) Board of Trustees announced it will pursue a contract with Dr. Eric Gallien to serve as CCSD’s next superintendent following an extensive nationwide search. Dr. Gallien’s selection follows his visit to the district last week where he toured schools, spoke with administrators and held a meet and greet with community members, families, educators, and staff.  With an unwavering commitment to educational excellence and a proven track record of transformative leadership, the Board intends for Dr. Gallien to formally assume his new role at CCSD this summer, pending contractual negotiations.

    As the second largest school district in South Carolina, Charleston County School District recognizes the crucial importance of selecting a superintendent who can drive positive change, create a culture of collaboration with diverse stakeholders, instill trust, and enhance the overall educational experience for all students. The rigorous selection process led by a search firm, BWP & Associates, resulted in 44 candidates from across the nation applying. BWP & Associates recommended seven of those candidates to the Board. The Board selected three individuals; Dr. Charles McNulty of Pulaski County Special School District (Little Rock, Arkansas), Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw of Richmond County School System (Augusta, Georgia), and Dr. Eric Gallien of Racine Unified School District (Racine, Wisconsin) as its top candidates. Dr. Gallien emerged as the leading candidate, impressing the Board with his experience, vision, and innovative approach to education.

    “I’m excited about this next step in the selection process and honored to be the candidate of choice to lead CCSD forward,” said Gallien. “I strongly believe in my ability to bring impactful, positive change to the students, families, and educators of CCSD and look forward to getting to work.”

  • The Charleston County School District is currently undergoing a search for a new Superintendent. This process began in the fall of 2022 with community engagement and will be completed in the spring of 2023.     The Leadership Profile for the 2023 Superintendent hiring process was developed by analyzing data input from Community engagement sessions held in April 2023.
