  • East Cooper CAS student raises over $7,000

    Emma Nodine, a student at East Cooper Center for  Advanced Studies and a member of Health Occupation Students of America Future Health Professionals (HOSA), recently spearheaded a fundraising walk for Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS). The event in April raised $7,582.

  • Cario Students Earn a Young Hero Grant

    Students at Thomas C. Cario Middle School were awarded a 2022 King-Size Hershey Heartwarming Young Hero Grant for $500. The grant money was used to engage 50 youth as volunteers in Global Youth Service Day (April 29, 2022).

  • Wando girls capture first state title in lacrosse in over a decade

    The Wando High School girls’ lacrosse program finally broke through at the South Carolina High School League AAAAA level and won the state championship by edging Riverside, 10-9, in the title game on April 30, 2022, at Irmo. Kelsey Bennett scored the game-winning goal with 2:28 left in the game; it was her 70th goal of the season.

  • Lucy Beckham boys’ lacrosse makes history with state championship

     Lucy Beckham (18-1) captured the South Carolina High School League AAAA boys’ lacrosse state title with a 10-8 victory over Christ Church in the finals on April 30, 2022, in Irmo. In just their second year of existence, the Bengals have a state championship.

  • Charles Pinckney Elementary wins 12th chess state championship

    When extracurricular activities shut down across the state due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Charles Pinckney Elementary School’s Chess Team got creative. They used a combination of Zoom and the website ChessKid to continue delivering weekly lessons to students remotely. The perseverance paid off on April 2, 2022, as 15 Pinckney students traveled to Greenville to play in the South Carolina State Scholastic Chess Championships.

  • Wando’s chorus wins the gold

    Wando High School’s chorus recently won the gold in a AAAA National Choral Competition in Orlando, FL. The Choir earned a Superior Rating for their performance and received the Best in Class Award for SATB (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Base) Choir. The Choir earned 299 points out of 300 possible points from the judges for their performance.

  • Culinary students from Wando clean up at state competitions

    Five Wando Warriors are on their way to the Family, Career and Community of Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference after two successful showings at the state level. Taiye Akinjobi and McKenzie Miller won their events at the state FCCLA conference in North Charleston on March 11, 2022, while Alex Henderson, Maggie Newton, and Darya Zlati advanced thanks to their performances on March 25, 2022, at the Culinary Institute of the South in Bluffton.
