    2023 Election Timeline

     

    James Island Charter High School is working with the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina (PCSASC) to hold this year’s election process. This ensures integrity and confidentiality in the process.

    The governing board consists of seven (7) total members; four (4) members are parents of currently-enrolled students and three (3) of the members are residents of James Island Constituent School District 3. There are three (3) parent seats up for election on the Board of Directors. There are also three (3) parent seats up for election on the Discipline Review Committee. Each of the available seats is for a term of  two (2) years. In addition, there is one (1) unexpired Community seat on the Board that has been vacated before the term ended. The community seat will have a one (1) year term that will expire in October 2024.


    September 11, 2023: Call for Board Candidates will be distributed to the public by the school. Each prospective board member must complete an online filing form..

    September 22, 2023:  Filing period ends. Acceptance of candidate filings will be closed at 12:00 pm (Noon).

     

    September 26, 2023: Candidate profiles will be posted online. 

     

    September 29, 2023: Open filing for additional vacated seat

     

    October 5, 2023: Filing period for additional seat ends and will close at 12:00 PM (Noon).

     

    October 6, 2023: Additional seat candidate profiles will be posted online. 

     

    October 10-12, 2023:  Voting open with e-ballot links emailed to each parent/guardian and employee of James Island Charter High School. Voting will open on October 10, 2023, at 8:00 am and will close on October 12, 2023, at 4:00 pm. There is one vote per child enrolled in the school and one vote per employee.Each ballot will have a unique pin number to ensure confidentiality and integrity of the process. Computers will be available at the school during normal school hours for those that may need additional assistance in voting.

     

    October 13, 2023: No later than this date election results will be certified and announced publicly. School board members will be announced publicly.

     

    October 16, 2023: Newly elected board members will be sworn in at the regularly scheduled October Meeting.  This completes the election process.


    Meeting and Training Requirements:

    Board Members are required to attend all board meetings.

    Mandated Board Training – Per South Carolina Law, all board members are required to attend board training within 1 year of being elected. Free trainings will be offered by the South Carolina Department of Education.
